An End to Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credits

The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, offering up to a 30% credit of the cost of qualifying improvements, will no longer be available after December 31st, 2025. The maximum annual credits are as follows:
Up to $1,200 for building improvements and general energy property
Exterior windows and skylights: up to $600
Exterior doors: up to $250 per door (max $500)
Insulation and air-sealing materials: no specific limit beyond $1,200 annual cap
Energy property: up to $600 for central air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, and other related items
Home energy audits: up to $150
Qualified electric or natural gas heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and biomass stoves or boilers: up to $2,000 (this is separate from the $1,200 annual credit)
Please note that for 2025, many items may require a Qualified Manufacturer Identification Number (QMID) or a unique PIN to be included on your tax return.
